Sources
Every row in this directory comes from an official TPA or insurer document: network workbooks issued to insurers and HR teams, and locator or provider-list exports published by the insurers themselves. Where an insurer publishes an exclusions list, we ingest that too, so a facility can be marked as excluded rather than silently dropped.
Nothing here is scraped from forums, submitted by users, or inferred from a hospital's own marketing. If we could not obtain an official file for a network, that network is not in the directory.
We do not republish the source files. They are licensed to the insurers and their members, and several are watermarked. What we publish is the derived index.
Source dates, and why they vary so much
Network files are not issued on a schedule. Some TPAs refresh quarterly; some insurers post a locator that updates continuously; some networks are represented in this build by a workbook that is well over a year old, because that is the most recent official version we have.
So every network carries its own source date on its page, and the oldest files in the current build date from 2024. We label them rather than averaging them into a single site-wide "last updated" that would be misleading for most of the data. A recent site rebuild date does not mean a recent source file - read the date on the network you actually hold.
If a network's date looks stale to you, it probably is. Treat it as a starting point for the phone call, not as an answer.
How facilities are matched and deduplicated
The same hospital appears across a dozen workbooks under a dozen spellings, often with the licence number appended, the emirate abbreviated, and the group name in brackets. Merging those correctly is most of the work.
- Name cleaning. Trailing licence codes (
/MF…,/DHA-F-…), duplicated whitespace and stray punctuation are stripped before matching. - Junk-row rejection. Header rows, numeric-only cells, footnote markers and names too short to be a facility are dropped rather than published as providers.
- Campus canonicalisation. A pattern set collapses the known spelling variants of the same campus onto one join key, so one physical hospital does not appear as four entries.
- Type separation. Pharmacies, opticals, labs and standalone dental clinics are deliberately excluded from campus canonicalisation. A hospital's pharmacy is a different row from the hospital, and merging them would produce exactly the false confidence this directory exists to prevent.
- City and type normalisation. Emirate spellings and abbreviations are mapped to one slug each; facility types are mapped to a fixed vocabulary.
Matching at this scale is imperfect. Two genuinely different campuses with near-identical names can merge; one campus that renamed between file versions can split. Both happen.
What the annotations mean
Each membership carries flags taken from the source file, not added by us: inpatient, outpatient, pharmacy, dental, and restricted. When a network file marks a provider as restricted, reimbursement-only, or otherwise limited, that annotation is carried through and surfaced. When the file says nothing, we show nothing - an absent flag means the source was silent, not that the answer is no.
A tick means the facility appeared on that network's file for that tier. It is not a statement about your table of benefits, your copay, your annual limit, your waiting periods, or whether a pre-approval will be granted.
Reporting an error
If you find a facility listed on a tier it does not serve, or missing from one it does, tell us: hello@chronic.md. Include the facility name, the emirate, the network and tier, and - if you have it - what the TPA told you. Corrections that come with a source we can check get applied fastest.
We would rather hear about a wrong row than have it sit there.
Confirm before you travel
Use this to shortlist and to rule things out. Do not use it as the last check before an admission. Networks change between file releases, facilities are suspended and reinstated over billing disputes, and a tier that covered a hospital last quarter may not this quarter.
Call the facility's insurance desk with your member ID, or check the TPA's own app, before you go.
Facility ratings
Ratings and review counts are a 15 Aug 2026 snapshot of public Google Maps listings, matched to the facility by name and location. They are user reviews, not a Chronic assessment, and they say nothing about whether the facility is on your network.
379 facilities carry a rating in this build. A listing is only joined when the names agree strongly and, where both sides publish coordinates, the two sit within a few kilometres of each other - so a missing rating means we could not identify the campus with confidence, not that the facility is unrated.
Ratings measure how patients felt about a visit. They do not measure clinical quality, and they have no bearing on whether your plan pays.
Phone numbers and map links
Every facility has a map link, built from its name and the locality the source file recorded, and centred on the facility's own coordinates where the source published them. 405 link straight to a Google listing we have matched to the facility; the rest open a search at the right point on the map.
13,246 of 25,143 facilities publish a number you can tap to call. Numbers arrive from the network files in local shorthand - "04 4400500", "26018587" - and are rewritten in international form so they dial from anywhere; where a value is too short to be a real subscriber line, it is printed as the file has it rather than linked. 241 numbers came from outside the network files, from a facility's own Google listing or an insurer's published locator, and each says so on the facility's page. Where a file published no number at all, the space is left empty rather than filled with a brand switchboard that would not reach the branch.
